Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) Certification

The FSC® is an international, membership-based, non-profit organization that supports environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world's forests. FSC® oversees the development of regional forest management standards, raises awareness of FSC® certification and the benefits of using FSC® certified products.

Why is SLS pursuing FSC® certification?

Forest certification is a voluntary process and is a mechanism to identify and promote good forest management. Forest certification is simply a part of doing business for many companies in the forest industry today. FSC® certification sets a high standard of practice and is widely supported by environmental organizations around the world. Additional opportunities include:
• international recognition;
• meeting consumer demands;
• strengthened supplier relationships; and
• the ability to secure existing markets and develop access to new markets.

3rd Party Audit Verification

The SLS FMA and B9 quota area will be audited to the National Boreal Standard (August 2004) accredited by FSC®. The standard can be found online at: http://www.fsccanada.org/borealstandard.htm
